Schedule

The schedule for this project will be divided into three phases: design, construction, and testing. In the design phase, each week will require analyses looking into the requirements and other aspects of the balsa wood bridge design. Also during each week, there are sections of the proposal form that need to be completed, so by the end of the quarter the proposal form should complete and submitted. By then, the construction phase would start in winter quarter where the parts for the bridge are gathered and built. The proposal form would become a report, which would be added on-to and updated as the manufacture of parts are made. Every few weeks would be a manufacturing discussion with the mentors on the progress of creating the parts for the project in which an overview of the created and ordered parts would be discussed as well as any issues that came up. For the testing phase in spring quarter, the bridge prototype would then be tested to meet or exceed the requirements for the project.

Budget

Regarding the budget for this project, much of the monetary costs that will be used on the project will be the purchase of raw materials, and articulation parts for the bridge. Since the raw materials can be shaped into the parts of the bridge as desired, there likely won't be any outsourcing considering that everything can be constructed at home. In regards to labor, it will mostly be an individual effort with assistance and guidance as needed throughout. The estimated cost for the project is about $109.02, however the actual cost of all the materials that were required for this project in the construction phase was about $159.09 (including shipping and tax), which is much higher than initial estimates.

In the testing phase of the project, there were additional purchases that were made to acquire testing materials. A few such items included a threaded rod, nut, washer, and steel blocks to serve as abutments. The cost of these materials was about $56.95.
